Chassis Cab steps in to help NHS ambulance service at the same time as working to keep essential supplies flowing

Chassis Cab – the Suffolk and Cambridgeshire-based DAF family-owned dealership – has answered the call for help from the East of England Ambulance Service to extend its professional vehicle-maintenance help to its life-saving vehicle fleet.  The business is offering this service at the same time as it meets the ongoing demand for vehicle maintenance and supply to keep essential deliveries flowing around the Eastern Region.

Chassis Cab HGV vehicle technicians Phil Smith and Kieran Ellis work on the East of England Ambulance Service fleet.

The dealership stepped in to supply two HGV technicians to work at the East of England Ambulance Service’s specialist vehicle workshop at Barton Mills, Suffolk, to help service ambulances and EMS (Emergency Medical Service) vehicles used by paramedics - both of which are being used in the frontline to support the extra pressure on the service created by the current pandemic.  The Chassis Cab technicians are now dedicated to providing this service to incoming vehicles to make sure they are on the road 24/7.  This is at a time where all four branches of the business have substantially reduced staff levels.

The East of England Ambulance Service is an NHS trust responsible for providing National Health Service ambulance services in the counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, in the East of England region. These consist of 5.8 million people and 7,500 square miles.

Speaking about the new link up, MD Robert Baxter said: “We feel privileged to be able to help the NHS in some way during these unprecedented times.  Providing our specialist technicians to help with the workload when the Trust was experiencing staff shortages was an easy choice to make.’

“The outbreak is having an impact on the way we do business but we have a structure in place to continue delivering support to our customers who need us now more than ever.

“It is our commitment to provide our employees with safe work environments, so that our people can continue to deliver an exceptional level of service and support to the business owners throughout our region.

“We are working as efficiently as we can still continuing to provide servicing including inspections, repairs and parts to keep the essential services moving while the outbreak continues and we thank all our staff for their exceptional efforts.”

The dealership is also still supporting DAF’s national breakdown service.
