Mobexx in-vehicle work order system cuts costs

Field service companies are wasting hundreds of thousands of pounds a year because of costly manual work order administration, according to mobile computing specialist Mobexx. The Runcorn-based company estimates that a new automated wireless real-time work order management system will save at least 20 minutes per job and boost efficiency throughout the business.

By implementing Mobexxs Mentor in-vehicle touchscreen computerised workforce management system, companies can cut costly administration from their business functions.  With an average of three scheduled jobs to perform per day, Mobexx estimates at least one hour can be saved through the automatic work order creation and tracking system.  For just a 40 strong field force, the savings are estimated at around 230,000 a year.

Savings can be considerable, particularly when you multiply the amount of administration and data entry time cut from the total work done throughout the year using this user friendly in-vehicle system, says Mark Dale-Lace, Director of Mobexx. Cutting 20 minutes of manual administration per job is a major achievement that leaves more time for revenue-generating jobs, and it means office staff can focus on other tasks. We can confidently demonstrate this based on work done in the field.

With an average of three scheduled jobs to perform per day, Mobexx estimates at least one hour can be saved through the user-friendly automatic work order creation and tracking system.

Integrating with a companys business system, jobs are sent directly to the in-vehicle computer, delivering full job details to the engineers fingertips without the need for phone calls or paper work orders. The integrated vehicle tracking shows the exact location of the engineers vehicle at all times whether they are stationary or travelling to site. In an emergency, this assists dispatchers to send the nearest available engineer to priority calls.

The system eliminates the opportunities for error in relaying work order changes to the engineer as the system can be updated on the fly by customer service staff / despatchers, immediately notifying the engineer of the revised details. Throughout the day, engineers also use the in-vehicle computer to electronically enter and send work order information back to the office - accurately and legibly.

The Mentor system fully mobilises field services engineers, providing them with full intelligence about each job. In one mobile PC they have everything they need in a in-vehicle office, giving them instance access to information they need to know without the hindrance of reams of paperwork associated with manual systems. Mobexx sees this as a true revolution in work order management that provides a fast Return on Investment and makes organisations more profitable, which is good news during these challenging economic times, says Mark Dale-Lace.
