Katem Logistics thinks pink for charity

Palletforce member Katem Logistics has turned one of its trucks bright pink as part of a campaign to raise 5,000 for charity.

The idea was the brainchild of Katie Davison who works in the sales department of the Palletforce member company.

She wanted to raise money for Cancer Research UK after her aunt Angela Welsh was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

"We're a very close family and I just wanted to do something to support her," said 21-year-old Katie.

"It has been really well received by everyone at Katem and the driver absolutely loves it, all the other drivers are jealous and want a pink truck too."

Katie's colleagues donated money to support the idea of giving one of the usual red, white and blue trucks a bright pink makeover.

Customers who have deliveries from the pink truck, which makes local deliveries as well as drop-offs at the Palletforce Hub every night, are also asked to make a donation at their discretion.

The fundraising efforts have not stopped there though. Katie and colleagues Cheryl Marley, Daniel Worsley and Daniel's dad Dave Worsley, dressed as lorry drivers and accompanied by a wooden truck they created, took part in the annual Boxing Day Dip into the North Sea.

Katem colleagues, including Katie, will also be taking part in the Great North Run in September 2012.

"The Boxing Day Dip wasn't as cold as we expected so we did it twice and I even went in all the way up to my neck," said Katie.

"The support I've had from colleagues has been absolutely brilliant and I know everyone will give their all to hit our fundraising target."

Katem Logistics was established in 1995 and is a family-run firm. Managing Director Clare Davison is Katie's mother, while father John is also a Director of the firm which was named after Katie and her sister Emily.

Operating from a 200,000 sq ft warehouse Katem offers haulage, storage, warehousing, distribution and a range of added value services.

"The pink truck has certainly been a talking point when it's been pulling into our Hub and is a great way to raise money for a fantastic cause," said Dave Holland, Sales and Marketing Director at Palletforce.
