Aircraft Carrier Alliance and Wincanton win supply chain award

The Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA) in partnership with Wincanton's Defence business took to the winner's podium in the European Supply Chain Excellence Awards recently. Together they won the top award in the Public Sector, Services and Utilities classification.

Dougie McInnes, ACA Supply Chain Director said: "This is a really prestigious award and the competition was fierce, so it's a great achievement for everyone involved. When affordability is key, excellence in logistics is crucial and this award recognises our commitment to that. I'm proud of the teamwork which has been rewarded today and which will be the bedrock for delivering the nation's flagships successfully."

The ACA and Wincanton won the award for the measurable benefits they delivered to the programme through innovative supply chain practices. Together they organised a centralised solution which operated well under budget and delivered savings of more than 1 million a year. They also found new ways to consolidate deliveries and handled more than six million items with a stock accuracy of more than 99 per cent.

Ross Bannerman, Managing Director of Wincanton's Defence business said: "The team worked incredibly hard to bring best in class standards to the ACA contract and to manage the complexity of such a large scale, high profile programme. The success of the Coddington operations has already attracted significant attention in the sector, so being recognised with this award provides us with official endorsement for the excellence in supply chain management that has been achieved."

Launched in 1997, the European Supply Chain Excellence Awards celebrate excellence across a broad range of industry sectors and supply chain disciplines with a focus on benefits delivered for the end customer. The ACA / Wincanton team were up against some stiff competition in the category, & following a very successful presentation to the judges were able to demonstrate the journey & the resultant benefits achieved.

The aircraft carriers HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales are being delivered by the Aircraft Carrier Alliance, a unique partnering relationship between industry and the UK Ministry of Defence.
