Wincanton invests 4.2 million in new construction fleet vehicles

Leading supply chain provider Wincanton has invested 4.2m adding 27 new vehicles to its dedicated construction fleet.

This investment follows the addition of 20 new curtain-sided teardrop trailers that were introduced earlier this year in partnership with Lafarge.

All 27 vehicles will be used to carry loads of building materials from bricks, to tiles and aggregates for a range of Wincanton customers in the construction sector.

Wincanton operates the UK's largest shared-user construction materials fleet with around 200 vehicles.

Sixteen of the 27 new trucks are replacements and eleven are additional vehicles acquired to meet growing demand from Wincanton's existing and new customers.

Wincanton managing director Chris Kingshott said: "This investment reflects our commitment to the construction sector and follows a recent 27% growth in volumes from our customers.

"We are committed to continually delivering improved efficiencies and service for our customers and these new vehicles are perfectly suited for handling complex loads at demanding delivery points including homes and commercial construction sites."

The vehicles were specified with first-class health and safety features including lightweight triple-side panels to improve manual handling and facilitate securing of the load from ground level, a stabiliser leg interlocking system and new VBG air operated coupling. Driver comfort was another high priority and the cabs feature an internal height of 2.1m with a raised single bunk and fitted microwave and fridge.
