P&O Ferrymasters extends Procter & Gamble pet food rail deal

Supply chain solutions specialist P&O Ferrymasters has renewed its contract with trimodal Euroterminal Coevorden, located 200km north-east of Rotterdam, which is first base for a container train service moving Procter & Gamble pet food across Europe.

The latest one-year deal with Euroterminal Coevorden extends an agreement dating back ten years. The Euroterminal and the manufacturer's IAMS plant are next to each other in Coevorden. Up to five shuttle trains per week take the goods to Rotterdam for pan-European rail connections as well as deepsea and shortsea shipments.

P&O Ferrymasters Intermodal director Wim Blomme says: "The new contract marks a highly successful decade of running this dedicated rail service. "More and more forward-thinking businesses with their fingers on the 'green' logistics pulse are switching from road transport to pioneering intermodal solutions that move their goods in a reliable, cost efficient and sustainable manner. The catalysts for change continue to be rising fuel costs, toll charges, drivers' wages, increasing congestion, inadequate infrastructure and the drive for lower CO2 emissions."

Euroterminal manager Jo Koop adds: "We are delighted with this extension because P&O Ferrymasters and Procter & Gamble provided the launch pad for our Rotterdam shuttle train offering."
