Russians visit Schiphol to learn about e-freight

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol's Cargo Department recently hosted a visit by a Russian delegation including representatives of Russian airport authorities, Russian Customs and border control officials, and Aeroflot and AirBridge Cargo Airlines.

The two-day visit was arranged in conjunction with Russia's Innovation Center for Civil Aviation, with the aim of exploring the implementation of e-Freight for air cargo between Amsterdam and Russia.

The visit included presentations from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol itself, the

E-freight@NL project team, Air Cargo Netherlands, Cargonaut, the Dutch Customs authority and Air France-KLM. The 45 visitors were also given a tour of the facilities of KLM Cargo which handles all cargo for Air France-KLM at Schiphol, and is the airport's largest cargo handling facility.

Says Saskia van Pelt, Schiphol Cargo's Director Business Development: "This was an exceptionally productive meeting because of the diversity of the delegation, which included representatives from all authorities involved in the air cargo supply chain.

"Russia is at the beginning of the road to E-freight, and has some preliminary work to do on document processing with all its authorities. But they are clearly focused on the future, and we are very pleased that they chose the Schiphol community as their primary source of intelligence on this subject."
