You probably know what speed-dating is, but have you ever heard of speed-mentoring? Women in Logistics UK successfully tried this relatively new concept at their most recent event - which also included workshops on LinkedIn and succession planning.
After a morning of fun golf tuition, the delegates split into small groups where they took it in turn to talk about where they are at in their career, their goals and career aspirations for the future. They then received advice and tips from fellow members, and shared experiences and insights with the rest of the group. The idea worked very well, the session was excellent and most members found it very helpful as they had something to take away to think about, or they had received some support.
Clare Bottle, Chair of Women in Logistics UK commented "We now have 1100 members in the group, which considering it's not yet 2 years old, is a real achievement. It's a brilliant forum to share ideas, support and network, and we're looking to hear from other logistics' professionals who want to be part of this influential group."
WIL UK's next event, a 'Logistics and Charity' event on 6 October 2010 in Chesterfield, will focus on the role of transport and logistics in the developing world - both for humanitarian relief and economic development. Great inspirational and motivational speakers from Transaid (WIL UK's chosen charity), Oxfam, DFID & Raleigh International have been lined up.
Clare Bottle added "As well as being able to find out how the third sector works, our members will also have the chance to see how they and their commercial businesses can learn from charities who are used to working with restricted resources".
