Midland Pallet Trucks calls for MPs to listen to retail workers this festive season

The Boxing Day argument has been gaining momentum over the last few weeks. Retail workers have been calling for shops to stay closed on Boxing Day, instead of opening at the crack of dawn ready for eager bargain-hunters to find their newest purchase.
However MPSs have been somewhat dismissive of the petition, which has received over 100,000 signatures to date, but Midland Pallet Trucks, one of the country's most prolific suppliers of hand pallet trucks and other warehouse equipment to retailers, has called for MPs to listen to the resounding voice and consider meeting demand to propose a ban on Boxing Day trading for shops.
Phil Chesworth, Managing Director at Midland Pallet Trucks, said, "This argument has been simmering under the surface for quite some time now, but thanks to technology, it has hit boiled over due to the online petition. Boxing Day sales have been a part of life for us for as long as we can remember, but this doesn't mean they should be forever. Christmas is a time for recharging batteries and spending time with family, and as most workers work until the 24th and find themselves back on Boxing Day, this doesn't really happen."
Some MPs have thrown their support behind the idea, but the majority – including Prime Minster, Theresa May – has suggested this will not happen. According to the naysayers, it would deny retailers the opportunity to win sales on one of the busiest shopping days of the year – which could potentially be detrimental to the economy. Yet Midland Pallet Trucks does not agree, mainly due to the rise of online retailers. Phil, added, "Online shopping has taken large leaps forward over the last couple of years, meaning many 'hit the sales' electronically now, instead of standing in queues and fighting for the last bargain on the shelf."
