Carlsberg scoops compliance awards from TruTac

Although logistics isn't their main business, it doesn't prevent brewery giant Carlsberg from taking compliance seriously – in fact nothing could be further from the truth.

The company plans to outsource its distribution to DHL Tradeteam by the end of 2018, but that hasn't stopped the current management team continuing to strive towards and achieving the high compliance levels it has always demanded of itself and its staff, despite the longer-term uncertainty.

One of the ways Philip Thompson, Carlsberg UK Fleet Manager, helps his transport managers stay on top of the latest regulations and how those effect the strict operational KPIs he sets, is by holding regular O Licence Meetings. As well as discussing best practice and looking at the results from the numerous key areas by which operations compliance is monitored, the team's achievements are reviewed against internal benchmarks to ensure everyone is performing to their maximum potential.

The latest meeting was held at the offices of Carlsberg's accident management partner Sopp+Sopp in Peterborough on November 8th and covered areas including tachograph analysis, driver training style and accident prevention and management. All the best operational frameworks need elements of recognition built in and it was to this end Jemma James, Commercial and Operations Director at TruTac, attended the day.

It is thanks to TruTac's tried and tested TruControl software that Carlberg's transport managers can easily keep on top of drivers' hours and adherence to tachograph legislation within their depots, so it was only appropriate for Jemma to present two awards for compliance in this area.

"I was honoured to be part of the day and present the awards for Drivers Hours compliance" she says. The first award went to Matt Day for Most Compliant Driver and the second to Ipswich for Most Compliant Depot. "Carlsberg is an exemplary operator, focused on both driver and depot compliance" Jemma adds. "The benefits are clear to see in both accident reduction and fleet efficiency, as well as driver retention rates."
