2017 FTA everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards now open for nominations

In the decade since everywoman created its annual celebration of women working in transport and logistics, there have been significant changes to the industry landscape.

The logistics industry alone has grown to an estimated 2.35 million roles, making up 7.5% of the UK workforce. The FTA everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards were launched to champion the sector's female achievers and with 78% of positions still held by men in the logistics industry, these awards continue to play a critical role, demonstrating the breadth and variety of careers the transport and logistics sector has to offer women.

Now in its tenth year, the 2017 awards will explore the future of transport and logistics, including the wide range of challenges facing the sector such as an increase in consumer expectations, the rise of e-commerce logistics and the impact of Christmas trading starting even earlier. With the sector set for larger growth this year, the UK freight industry alone is expected to rise to its highest levels since 2014, the opportunities for women have never been greater.

Highlighting those who strive to tackle challenges and make a positive change, the awards will celebrate both successful industry leaders and those individuals at any stage in their career who have gone 'above and beyond' for their organisation. In addition, the Industry Champion Award will recognise a woman, or man, who is championing the progress of women working in transport and logistics.

Entries are now open for nominations in a brand-new format. There will now be two winners per category, one Leader and one individual going Above and Beyond. All nominees should demonstrate how they are innovating and excelling in their roles.

Maxine Benson MBE, co-founder of everywoman, comments, "For too many women and girls, there is an unconscious bias about the transport and logistics industry when it comes to career choice. These awards play a vital part in uncovering role models who can change these perceptions and demonstrate the fast paced and diverse industry that it is. The speed of change that the sector is experiencing is unprecedented, the industry offers huge opportunities for women seeking rewarding careers. We want to celebrate the brilliance of transport and logistic's brightest female talent and call upon all those in the industry to nominate peers and colleagues who deserve to have their achievements recognised and rewarded."

David Wells, chief executive of the FTA adds: "We're delighted to once again be title partner for the FTA everywoman in Transport and Logistics Awards, showcasing the incredible diversity of talented women throughout the industry. Only 1% of HGV drivers in the UK are women and the sector's labour shortages mean it's crucial for firms to recognise the valuable contribution women can make. These awards uncover role models whose stories can inspire the truck drivers and transport managers of the future and can help make logistics an inspirational career choice for young women to follow."

The winners will be unveiled and celebrated at a prestigious ceremony on 21 June 2016 at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square.
